Friend of the Mountain Award 2023: George Ohrstrom

Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains has selected a conservation legend in the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley. George Ohrstrom was honored with the Friend of the Mountain award at a special event in his honor November 5 in Round Hill, Va.

George is the founder and president of The Downstream Project, a nonprofit communications and technology group that supports conservation organizations in our region. George also is o-chair of the Piedmont Environmental Council, a founder and president of Friends of the Shenandoah River, and a longtime supporter of conservation groups like Virginia Working Landscapes, the Shenandoah Riverkeeper, and The Opequon Watershed. He is past chairman and board member of the Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority, which has preserved nearly 10,000 acres in Clarke County through conservation easements.
